Andy got us tickets to see Rodrigo y Gabriela last Friday at the Crystal Ballroom. It was my first show at the Crystal - a fun albeit not acoustically fabulous venue that has springy floors. I first heard R&G last summer on one of the local indie radio stations, and they seem to have quite the following judging from the crowd at the show. It was one of their songs that led to the embarrassing (or entertaining, depending on which side of it you were on) spontaneous dance we "performed" at our reception. That was NOT planned, people.
The most amazing talent is in Gabriela's hands - virtually all the percussion in their songs comes from her guitar. Here is a video from when they were on Letterman - it may take a minute to load - it's best to let it start playing and then hit pause until it's completely loaded (when the bar is all red). She has a solo about half-way through that is just ridiculous.
The second video is a performance of my favorite song, "Tamacun" (the aforementioned wedding choice). It was the last song they played at the concert and it was great to be in a big crowd of people with the floor bouncing away...
